Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum held its first job fair of 2026 on Friday, offering 900 positions across 89 companies, with a focus on filling vacancies in the hotel sector during peak tourist seasons.
Melitón González Pérez, director general of Economic Development, announced that organizers moved the event forward to capitalize on the remaining winter tourism season. “This is the first fair of the year, and we wanted to schedule it a bit early to make the most of what’s left of the winter season,” he said.
The 900 positions cover 89 different job profiles. González Pérez noted that some listings represent multiple openings; for example, a bartender position might require up to 20 workers, significantly increasing the total number of opportunities.
Most vacancies are in the hotel industry, though supermarkets and government institutions also participated. “These openings are mostly clustered in the hotel sector. You can see the companies taking part, including supermarkets and government agencies,” he explained.
The fair included participation from the State Institute for Job Training (Icat), which offers continuing education courses. González Pérez said the institute was invited back after not participating in previous years. He emphasized that Icat provides training both to job seekers and to companies looking to enhance their staff’s skills.
Addressing persistent labor shortages in the area, González Pérez acknowledged that the fair aims to help residents who face challenges reaching potential employers or who don’t receive adequate attention when applying directly. “We believe we have enough workforce; that’s why we hold these fairs, to bring services and opportunities closer to the community,” he concluded.
