Track Failure Halts Tren Maya Train in Campeche, No Injuries Reported

Emergency personnel at a Tren Maya station in Campeche after a train suffered a track failure on Monday.

Campeche, Mexico — A Tren Maya train was halted Monday afternoon after its last car experienced a track failure just moments after leaving the San Francisco de Campeche station, according to officials.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., roughly 50 meters from the station, as the train headed for Palenque with 123 passengers aboard.

The driver stopped the train immediately, and authorities reported no injuries.

Company staff distributed food and water to passengers while coordinating an evacuation. Around 4 p.m., passengers were escorted back to the departure terminal in an orderly manner.

Travelers were then taken by road to the Edzná station, where they boarded a replacement train and continued their scheduled journey.

Mexico’s Railway Accident Review Commission has taken over the case to conduct technical inspections and determine the exact cause of the track failure. Operator officials said service continues to run normally despite inspection work along the affected section.
