Favorable Climate Boosts Expectations for Honey Production
The honey production season has already begun, keeping workers in the sector optimistic, according to beekeeper Saúl Can, who stated that the weather so far is favorable. An abundant flowering of tajonal is expected during the first months of 2026, and there is confidence in a good price for the sweet product.
Unique Production Start in Eastern Yucatán
The Eastern zone of Yucatán has a special particularity regarding the start of the production season, as during the months of October, November, and December, the first pre-harvests or cleanings take place, collecting honey from vines. Additionally, there are abundant flowering vines that make the work more favorable.
The beekeeper added that currently, prior to the start of the second harvest, the weather has been favorable. Although rains have not completely ceased, there have been no low temperatures affecting production, which will allow for honey with 21 degrees of humidity, representing good quality.
Price Recovery After Previous Season
Regarding prices, the beekeeper explained that the previous season they were very low, but the abundant harvest helped them. He recalled that the kilogram cost less than 30 pesos, driven by the commercialization of syrups promoted as honey without actually being so.
Currently, the harvest is a mixture of honeys, as residues from the previous one remain. Additionally, bee feeding and flowering influence it, resulting in a dark-colored product that will not be for export but for national consumption.
Tajonal Flowering and Export Expectations
After the pre-harvest of these last weeks of 2025 comes the flowering of tajonal in the months of January, February, and March of the following year. Price competition is expected because more people are anticipated to be interested in acquiring this product.
He recalled that tajonal honey is appreciated for its optimal humidity level, exquisite flavor, and color. The weather up to this date is favorable, and it is trusted that in January the temperature will remain optimal with sufficient humidity.
Furthermore, beekeeper Saúl Can mentioned that tajonal honey has high demand in international markets, and this entire harvest would be for export, as due to its conditions it could have a high price, which would benefit producers.
Meanwhile, there are good expectations regarding production and the final cost of this appreciated sweet.
