Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Colosio and Guadalupana neighborhoods, along with the Villas del Sol subdivision, are the areas that account for the majority of gender violence cases, revealed Idanea Gamboa Medina, director of the Municipal Women’s Institute.
In an interview, the official indicated that these neighborhoods have “Violet Points” where women can go to receive legal, psychological, and nutritional advice, as well as support if they need to file a complaint.
In fact, in 2025 the Women’s Institute provided 1,325 support services, along with 3,825 legal consultations and 4,622 psychological consultations, detailed Gamboa Medina, who noted that 90% of the women they serve suffer some type of gender violence, whether physical, psychological, or economic.
The director highlighted that previously this institute received women who were redirected by the 911 emergency line, but now, due to outreach efforts, it’s common to receive direct calls to their own line, or to receive women who come to one of their Violet Points.
