Courtroom gavel and scales of justice representing three prison sentences for sexual abuse of minors handed down in Quintana Roo, Mexico

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Three men have been sentenced to prison in Quintana Roo for raping minors in separate cases, with the longest term reaching 120 years, state prosecutors said.

Julio Salvador Mejía Sendo received the harshest sentence after an oral trial court found him responsible for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter at a home in the Villas Lakín subdivision in Benito Juárez municipality. The abuse took place in March, June and September 2022, while the girl’s mother was at work, according to the ruling.

Along with the 120-year prison term, Mejía Sendo was ordered to pay 288,660 pesos in reparations and another 64,120 pesos for material damages.

In a second case, Rodolfo Palmer González was sentenced to 40 years in prison and fined 217,200 pesos for the sexual assault of his underage stepdaughter. Those events occurred in 2020 at a home in the Valle Verde neighborhood, also in Benito Juárez.

Marvin Rolando Ixim Caal was likewise sentenced to 40 years for raping his son, who was 10 months old when the assault took place in April 2022 in the village of Macario Gómez, in Tulum municipality.

The three sentences stem from separate cases and were issued by oral trial judges, officials said. The convictions cover incidents reported between 2020 and 2022.
