Cozumel, Mexico — The third edition of Expo Tattoo Cozumel 2025 is set to take place on November 8 and 9, featuring 30 tattoo artists from Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Spain, and Japan. The event, to be held at the Moby Dick Event Center, aims to boost international and national tourism to the island and break down stigmas surrounding tattoos, promoting them as a form of personal expression rather than merely a trend.

An Event for Expression and Tourism

Raúl Reyes, a member of the organizing committee, explained that the event is open to individuals interested in getting a tattoo or simply learning more about the art form from qualified personnel. This year's exposition is dedicated to the men and women of the sea under the theme 'Sea of Ink,' honoring those who work in fishing and maritime tourist services, as well as those who have been lost at sea.

The theme will be reinforced with designs from local tattoo artists incorporating elements of the sea and the island. Reyes stated that the event also seeks to attract tourism alongside local residents to showcase the art of tattooing and the application of ink to the skin. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive tattoos by scheduling with one of the 30 visiting artists or with local Cozumel artists.

Reyes noted that there are approximately 17 professionally established tattoo studios on the island, representing a significant number, though the exact count of tattoo artists is unknown. He emphasized that there has been an ongoing effort to professionalize those who dedicate themselves to the art of tattooing.

Combating Stigma and Fostering Exchange

A further objective of the expo is to reduce and eradicate persistent myths against people with tattoos, such as an alleged link between tattoos and criminality. The event aims to show that this is not always the case and that tattooing is a form of expression that causes no harm.

The gathering will also provide an opportunity for artists to exchange experiences and tattooing techniques. The event will feature music, raffles, and shows for the entire family, including live comedy and music for most of each day.
