Teachers from the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Benito Juárez, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Othón P. Blanco have returned to their classrooms. This move comes after federal authorities decided to dismiss the ISSSTE Reform. After three weeks of striking, teachers, particularly those at primary and secondary school levels, resumed their duties, much to the relief of parents.
The decision to return to teaching followed the announcement by the Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, that the ISSSTE Reform would no longer be considered in the Chamber of Deputies and Senators. As a result, the proposed reform was repealed. Some teachers stated, "Those of us who had been urged to continue sit-ins and protests by the Central Fight Committee made the brave and consistent decision to prioritize education and return to our classrooms."
However, not all teachers chose to return, despite the threat of salary deductions for their absence. These teachers argue that the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) has not finished fighting.
