CHETUMAL — Section 25 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) has issued an official statement following events this Friday in the community of Chun Yah, municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The statement comes in response to the arrest of an education worker, preliminarily identified as José Adrián “N”, who is the director of a telesecundaria and the general secretary of union delegation D-II-41.

Through a document signed by the section's general secretary, José Arimael Salas Alcocer, the teachers' union stated its position regarding accusations made by state education and security authorities. In the statement, the SNTE reiterated that the protection and well-being of children and adolescents is a fundamental principle of public schools, which must guarantee safe and violence-free environments.

However, the union called on the relevant authorities to ensure that investigations are conducted in strict accordance with the law, guaranteeing due process and respect for the rights of all parties involved. Section 25 emphasized its willingness to cooperate institutionally with the appropriate bodies, always within the framework of legality and institutional responsibility, while also safeguarding the labor rights of education workers.

Arrest Sparks Community Protest

The teacher's arrest sparked a major protest in the community of Chun Yah, where witnesses captured the moment security forces carried out the intervention. The case has caused a stir in the education sector due to the union position held by the accused, who works at the "Juan Bautista Vega" Telesecundaria, a distance learning secondary school.

Zero Tolerance and Call for Clarity

Finally, the union stressed that there will be zero tolerance for any conduct that violates the integrity or dignity of minors, but expressed its confidence that the authorities will act in accordance with the law to promptly clarify the facts.
