Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities rescued six dogs found in overcrowded and malnourished conditions during an operation in Cancun’s Region 225, following a citizen report made through social media.

The intervention was led by the municipal secretary general, Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, under instructions from Mayor Ana Paty Peralta. The interagency operation responded to citizen reports alerting about the abandonment of the canines at a private residence.

Multiple agencies coordinated to ensure the animals’ safety and protection:

  • The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office initiated the corresponding investigation file.
  • The General Directorate of Ecology and Animal Protection conducted medical evaluations and transported the dogs to the Animal Welfare Center.
  • The Citizen Security and Fire Department provided perimeter and technical support for entering the property.

The Benito Juárez municipality announced it will begin administrative proceedings to sanction the owners. Authorities emphasized these actions aim to curb animal cruelty in Cancun.
