Shooting in Tulum Leaves One Injured Amid Wave of Violence

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A shooting near a school in Tulum’s 2 de Octubre neighborhood left one man injured Sunday, adding to a wave of violent incidents that rattled the popular tourist destination.

Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots behind Ford school in the irregular settlement, prompting emergency calls. Red Cross paramedics responded and provided initial treatment before transporting the wounded man to the IMSS Bienestar hospital for evaluation.

Due to the severity of his gunshot injury, medical personnel later arranged to transfer the patient to a higher-capacity hospital in Playa del Carmen for specialized care.

Preliminary unofficial reports suggest state prosecutors were conducting routine patrols in the area when the shooting occurred. Initial versions indicate the injured man may have initiated aggression against the officers, leading to the armed response, but authorities have not officially confirmed these details.

The State Prosecutor’s Office had not issued a detailed statement about the incident by publication time and did not specify whether any arrests were made or weapons seized.

Security personnel cordoned off the area while forensic experts collected evidence. The shooting was among several violent incidents reported throughout Tulum on Sunday, causing concern among residents and visitors.

On social media, citizens shared videos and alert messages about police presence and gunfire in different parts of the city. Authorities urged the public to remain calm and only follow information from official channels as investigations continue into the circumstances of this latest violent episode.
