Royal Caribbean Engages Community for Mahahual Pier Project

Royal Caribbean Mexico president Ari Adler discussing Mahahual pier project with community

Cancún. Royal Caribbean Mexico continues the process of community engagement and social work in Mahahual as part of preparations for its project to expand and build new cruise port infrastructure, according to its president, Ari Adler.

Working with Different Community Actors

The executive explained that the company maintains constant meetings with residents, community leaders, and authorities at all three levels of government, with the objective of addressing local needs and advancing transparently toward obtaining federal, state, and municipal permits.

“We are working with different actors in the community to support them with some needs and also with the authorities. All of this is preparation so that, when we obtain the permits, we can start the works. Our responsibility to the community begins from the moment we arrive, not when we open our development,” Adler stated.

Community Center to Be Renovated

Among current actions, he highlighted collaboration on the Mahahual community center, a space that will be renovated and expanded with better facilities. According to Adler, this is one of the components where the most progress has been made through direct agreements with the population.

“We are going to offer better conditions in a more comfortable and spacious space. We are working very closely with them and even changing the name of the community center in agreement with the population,” he commented.

Evaluating Improvements to Some Roadways

Additionally, the cruise line has begun evaluating improvements to some roadways in the town, although these projects are still in the joint development phase with residents and local authorities.

Adler emphasized that the port acquisition includes signed agreements that guarantee all cruise lines the maintenance of their docking rights, so the development of the new pier will not imply exclusivity for Royal Caribbean.

“It is important to clarify that from the moment the port was acquired, we guaranteed all cruise lines their docking rights. Just as Royal Caribbean cruise passengers will increase, so will those of other cruise lines, always for the benefit of the local community,” he noted.

Advancing “Hand in Hand with the Community and Authorities”

The president of Royal Caribbean Mexico recalled that this type of development requires long and complex processes, but he assured that the company is advancing “hand in hand with the community and the authorities,” with emphasis on compliance with the law and transparency in the community engagement process.
