Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo – A robbery attempt on the night of December 31 at a notary office in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood prompted a security mobilization after the building’s alarm was triggered.
The incident occurred at notary office number 34, located on 34th Avenue at the intersection with 30th Avenue, where an individual broke the glass door to enter the establishment. The intrusion was immediately detected by the security system, allowing for the prompt intervention of authorities.
According to gathered information, the individual was still inside the premises when police units arrived, leading him to surrender voluntarily without resistance. When questioned, he stated that his intention was to locate documents he described as “important.”
The detainee claimed that a person, whom he identified only as a lawyer named Julio, had instructed him to enter the notary office to search for said documents, without specifying their content, location, or the reason for the search. This version was included in the initial case proceedings.
During the inspection of the location, no theft of objects was reported, although material damage to the main door of the building was confirmed. The area was secured preventively while corresponding reviews were conducted and evidence was collected.
The subject was transferred to the facilities of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, where he was placed at the disposal of the competent authority for the determination of responsibilities. Authorities initiated investigations to determine if other individuals were involved and to fully clarify the events.
