Cancún, Quintana Roo — State and municipal authorities joined the Mexican Red Cross to launch the organization’s 2026 annual fundraising campaign on Tuesday afternoon under the slogan “What you see here, we do together.”
The launch coincided with the 116th anniversary of the Mexican Red Cross’s founding. Governor Mara Lezama highlighted the humanitarian organization’s longstanding partnership with authorities throughout Quintana Roo’s history.
She thanked paramedics for their daily work saving lives across all destinations in the state. “In the most difficult moments, the Red Cross is there. They never consider ‘let’s see what car they have, should we treat them,’ ‘let’s see if they have a credit card,'” Lezama said.
The governor emphasized that while the Red Cross is a humanitarian institution, it needs everyone’s support to continue its work year after year. “Every contribution adds up tremendously. Any contribution, no matter how small. From those who find it hardest to donate but still do, to the large donations from business owners with enormous hearts,” she stated.
State Red Cross delegate Carlos Constandse said the organization maintains a strong humanitarian commitment to the state through its eight delegations in Quintana Roo. He noted that last year, Red Cross paramedics provided timely care that saved the lives of more than 2,000 people in Quintana Roo.
“The Mexican Red Cross is hope when it seems there is none left; it’s the bridge between emergency and the opportunity to keep living,” Constandse said.
He acknowledged support from the state government led by Governor Mara Lezama and Benito Juárez Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta, saying their backing has been key to strengthening the institution’s operational capacity in recent years.
Constandse also highlighted the work of volunteer women, medical staff, nurses, and rescue workers. He reported that in coordination with the state Health Department, the “Accident Prevention and First Responders for Upper Primary” program reached 662 schools over the past two years, benefiting approximately 42,000 students and more than 7,000 teachers and parents while helping reduce accidents in school and home environments. The program will expand to secondary schools this year.
Finally, the delegate noted that in recent years, the Red Cross has strengthened its infrastructure and modernized its vehicle fleet to expand its response capacity. He reiterated that the Red Cross’s operation depends on social co-responsibility, government support, trust from businesses, foundations and donors, and citizen commitment.
“The call isn’t for the institution; it’s for the people who, in the most critical moment of their lives, will depend on us being there,” Constandse concluded.
