The state program "Recycle for your Future" is set to return for a second consecutive year in six municipalities under the current state administration. The registration period will run from March 3rd to April 30th, with the exchange of valuable waste for food baskets taking place from May 1st to October 31st, 2025.

Eligible participants for this program are residents of Benito Juárez, Puerto Morelos, the intercontinental area of Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Solidaridad, and Othón P. Blanco. The program aims to benefit 15,000 residents across these six municipalities. Participants can exchange polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), aluminum, paper (including magazines, files, and newspapers), and cardboard (such as boxes and packaging) for 90,000 food baskets containing basic products worth 450 pesos.

The "Recycle for your Future" program seeks to promote a culture of comprehensive waste management, encouraging the recovery, reuse, and recycling of waste through secondary separation.

The program is implemented in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Puerto Morelos, the intercontinental area of Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Solidaridad, and Othón P. Blanco due to these areas' high demand for resources and services, which leads to significant waste production.

The economic and population dynamics in Quintana Roo result in the generation of approximately 3,072 tons of waste daily. On average, only 11% of this waste is recovered, while the rest is disposed of in official or clandestine sites, leading to serious environmental issues due to the emission of pollutants such as leachate and greenhouse gases.

In 2024, the state spent over 51.6 million pesos on the Comprehensive Service for the implementation of the "Recycle for your Future" waste recycling program, which ran from July 3rd to December 11th.
