The state of Quintana Roo in Mexico is set to inaugurate its first Specialized Adoption Court on November 18th, located in the city of Chetumal. This new court will be tasked with resolving cases related to adoption disputes, a responsibility that was previously managed by family judges across various judicial districts in the state.

The creation of this specialized court was approved by the Judiciary Council of the Judicial Power of Quintana Roo. The court will have the authority to grant declarations of adoptability in cases of loss of parental authority, in accordance with relevant legislation.

Official data reveals that as of October 2023, 24 minors were legally adopted in Quintana Roo, undergoing a legal process to become part of a new family. Adoptions in the state are regulated by the Adoption Law, the Civil Code, and other legal provisions aimed at protecting children and families. These regulations are in line with international treaties that safeguard the rights of children.
