Quintana Roo, Mexico — The state of Quintana Roo is advancing with determination toward a comprehensive, effective, and humane response to HIV, reflecting the commitment of the humanist government led by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, stated Health Secretary Flavio Carlos Rosado during the inauguration of the “Course-Workshop on Combined HIV Prevention and Its Comprehensive Approach.”

This academic-practical workshop, conducted as part of activities commemorating World AIDS Day 2025, reinforced knowledge on crucial topics including PrEP, PEP, vaccination, risk reduction, mental health, and maternal-child prevention, among others.

“This update session adheres to current national guidelines and is framed within the New Agreement for Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama to build a state where prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are accessible to all people, and living with HIV does not mean inequality, discrimination, or barriers to a full life,” emphasized the Health Secretary.

“Our governor has delivered a clear message: there will be no setbacks in the HIV response; on the contrary, we will advance faster, with more strength, and always putting people at the center of decisions,” he underscored.

Flavio Carlos highlighted the coordinated work among institutions and thanked the participation of health sector professionals and community organizations that have been fundamental in making needs visible, combating stigma, and bringing services to those who need them most.

After highlighting the collaboration of the general director of Galenia Hospital, Eduardo Loya Cortés, where this course-workshop was held, he mentioned that the CAPASITS have strengthened the Point of Care model for comprehensive diagnosis at the moment and immediate treatment to avoid complications.

“Our multidisciplinary teams offer specialized clinical care, psychological support, continuous follow-up, and first-line schemes that allow achieving and sustaining viral suppression,” he said.

In Quintana Roo, the three Sanitary Jurisdictions conducted conversations, screenings, workshops, installation of modules, informational talks, marches, creation of a ribbon, and lighting of red candles, among other symbolic activities for World AIDS Day 2025.

Furthermore, to redouble efforts and coordinated work with the Mexican government, the Health Secretary participated in the meeting “Overcoming Interruptions, Transforming the AIDS Response” in Mexico City, which was led by Health Secretary David Kersenobish, “because in health, we are all part of the same team and we continue strengthening prevention throughout Quintana Roo.”
