Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres Gómez, stated that with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Federal Government, strategies for the prevention, attention, and combat of different modalities of human trafficking crimes will be strengthened in Quintana Roo.
During the IV Ordinary Session of the Interinstitutional Commission Against Human Trafficking Crimes of the State of Quintana Roo, she emphasized that the union of civil society and authorities will allow more effective results against this scourge.
Cristina Torres highlighted that the frontal combat against the crime and the attention to its causes is one of the characteristics of the government of transformation, humanist with a feminist heart, led by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
“The determined commitment of everyone will allow the work initiated in Quintana Roo to be successful, where in the past, scourges that are currently combated frontally were made invisible, even with the support of international organizations such as the IOM,” she indicated.
The Secretary of Government insisted that institutional coordination is fundamental, both for victims to file the corresponding complaints and for prosecuting authorities to detain and process those responsible for the crimes.
It should be noted that during the work session, progress on actions carried out during the year was presented, highlighting the fact that the State Attorney General’s Office initiated 149 investigation files, which resulted in 35 people detained and 480 victims of human trafficking freed.
For his part, the Senior Specialist in Human Trafficking and Smuggling of the IOM Mexico, Juan Manuel Meixueiro Alarcón, presented the so-called IOM toolbox for the attention, prevention, and combat of human trafficking crimes.
This is a series of laws, international norms, and action protocols, gathered in a single document, which becomes a source of consultation for the comprehensive attention of this problem from the state level.
For her part, the Deputy Director of Strategies for the Attention of Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior, Brenda Flores García, guaranteed support with greater resources for the dissemination of actions for the attention of human trafficking crimes.
The IV Ordinary Session of the Interinstitutional Commission Against Human Trafficking Crimes was held at the Judicial University of the State of Quintana Roo, with the attendance of representatives from municipalities and state and federal agencies.
