December 12 marks the celebration of the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico, one of the country’s most important religious and cultural festivities, including in Quintana Roo. The day commemorates the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac in 1531, an event that gave rise to the Guadalupan symbol.
The celebration includes:
- Pilgrimages from various points across the country to the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
- The traditional serenade of “Las Mañanitas,” sung by thousands of faithful and broadcast nationally.
- Masses, traditional dances, offerings, and prayers, both at the Basilica and in churches and homes.
Therefore, various activities will be celebrated in Quintana Roo across different municipalities. Here are some you can attend with the whole family.
