Quintana Roo — Four Magic Towns in Quintana Roo are vying for top honors in the 2026 Magical Excellence Awards, with voting closing Tuesday. State tourism officials are urging residents to support Bacalar, Tulum, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres in the national competition.

The awards, organized by the Magical Excellence Awards, recognize the best Magic Towns across Mexico for initiatives that promote culture, gastronomy, nature, and sustainability. Quintana Roo’s entries are competing in six of the 13 categories.

Bacalar leads with nominations in four categories: Culture for its “Sábados Danzoneros” community dance events; Best Tourist Product for its “Experiencia Integral” nature and culture package; Nature for the “Ecoparque Bacalar” management of the Seven Colors Lagoon; and Sustainability for its “Respiro a la Laguna” weekly no-navigation day.

Isla Mujeres is nominated in three categories: Inclusion and Accessibility for local initiatives; Nature for its municipal beach cleaning and certification program; and Sustainability for sea turtle protection and shark conservation efforts.

Tulum is competing in the Culture category with its “Adopt an Artisan” program, while Cozumel is in the running for Gastronomy with “Cozumel y sus Sabores.”

The winners will be announced at the awards gala during the Acapulco Tourism Fair 2026. The awards emphasize preserving Mexico’s cultural, natural, and historical heritage through tourism development.
