Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo state legislature has presented a formal recognition to Rotary International, marking the organization’s 50th anniversary in the state and celebrating its decades of humanitarian service.
The award was delivered during an ordinary legislative session on February 23, designated as “Rotary Movement Day in the State.” It honors the upcoming 50th anniversary of Rotary’s presence in Quintana Roo, which will be commemorated in 2026.
The milestone traces back to the founding of the Cancún Rotary Club, the first in the state, which paved the way for 18 active clubs across Quintana Roo, building a network dedicated to community service and social commitment.
Recognition in Legislative Session
During the session, Silvia Dzul Sánchez, president of the legislative board, presented the recognition to Jean Baptiste Manel N’tab, past governor of District 4195 (2024-2025) and a member of the Chetumal Rotary Club.
Renán Sánchez Tajonar, president of the Board of Government and Political Coordination, highlighted the organization’s trajectory, stating it represents “five decades of effort that inspire, unite, and leave a mark in Quintana Roo.”
Humanitarian Work and Social Commitment
Lilia Mis Martínez, president of the Human Rights Commission, emphasized from the legislative floor that the Rotary movement’s primary objectives are to provide humanitarian service, foster integrity, and promote world peace.
Rotary clubs in Quintana Roo have played a key role in initiatives to combat poverty, disease, illiteracy, and lack of clean water, while also driving community projects that strengthen the social fabric.
