Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama has launched the “Outstanding Quintanarroense Woman 2026” award to recognize female leadership across the state, emphasizing that “this is the time for women” in Mexico’s current political climate.
Lezama presented the award alongside Esther Burgos Jiménez, head of the Secretariat for Women (SEMUJERES), describing it as recognition for women who drive real change in their communities through daily work that generates well-being and transformation.
“We live in historic times; Mexico has for the first time a woman President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and that sends a wonderful message: women can be whatever we want to be,” Lezama said, highlighting national progress toward gender equality.
Burgos detailed that this year’s award will honor women in 11 categories: business, science and technology, education, culture, sports, ecology, tourism, indigenous communities, health, communications, and social impact.
The nomination period opened immediately and will run through March 6. Women over 18 can apply or be nominated through an official QR code link or by calling the SEMUJERES line at 800 500 9559.
Lezama stressed that promoting female talent strengthens Quintana Roo’s present and secures its future, stating, “The transformation in Quintana Roo has a woman’s face, and that face shines with dignity, work, and hope.”
