Quintana Roo Governor Denies Class Suspensions Amid Security Concerns

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama addressing security concerns

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama has denied rumors of class suspensions in Quintana Roo, assuring residents that tourist and social activities continue normally amid heightened security coordination following a federal operation in Jalisco.

In an urgent message to citizens, Lezama addressed security concerns in the state after reactions to the operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, where Nemesio Osegura, known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed. She urged the public not to spread “false and malicious” information circulating on social media aimed at creating uncertainty and fear.

Lezama emphasized that the state government is in permanent session with federal forces, prosecutors, and municipal presidents. To ensure order, authorities have deployed over 10,000 personnel from federal, state, and municipal agencies, along with firefighters and emergency services.

The governor stated that classes at all levels have not been suspended in Quintana Roo. She also highlighted that airports, bus terminals, maritime terminals, the Maya Train, and public transportation services are operating normally.

Lezama labeled as false images of a burning airplane—created with artificial intelligence—as well as reports of closures in Cancun’s hotel zone or the Mérida-Cancún highway.

Regarding actual incidents, Lezama acknowledged the burning of three vehicles on the Leona Vicario highway, seven in Playa del Carmen, and five in Tulum, along with damage to two businesses. However, she reported that joint operations led to the arrest of nine alleged criminals responsible for these acts and stressed that no civilians have been injured. She concluded by urging the public to stay informed only through official channels.
