Chetumal – With the arrival of Mexico’s first woman president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, a new stage began for Quintana Roo in April 2025, with the official launch of the National Network of Weavers of the Homeland, a movement of women volunteers who, through community organization and collective action, promote the construction of a more just, supportive, and egalitarian country.

In Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa immediately accompanied the national public policy, strengthening its implementation through the Secretariat of Women (SEMUJERES), which from April to November achieved the integration of 1,142 women into the Weavers of the Homeland network, establishing an active territorial structure in all municipalities of the state.

The Weavers of the Homeland are active in the 11 municipalities, with notable participation in José María Morelos with 310 Weavers of the Homeland; in Playa del Carmen with 240; in Cozumel with 120; in Bacalar with 114; in Othón P. Blanco with 105; and in Benito Juárez with 82 women, as well as active presence in Felipe Carrillo Puerto with 54; in Isla Mujeres with 40; in Tulum with 38; in Lázaro Cárdenas with 37; and Puerto Morelos with 2 participants, reflecting significant reach in community articulation that has women as its main axis.

The Secretary of Women, Esther Burgos Jiménez, explained that all women who join the Weavers of the Homeland undergo a comprehensive training process to learn about institutional services, programs, and strategies regarding human rights, prevention and attention to violence, and women’s autonomy, assuming the commitment to replicate this information in their communities.

They also support the dissemination of the Women’s Rights Handbook in their communities and the organization of dialogue spaces and the permanent invitation to more women to join the network.

The Weavers of the Homeland network represents a new stage of citizen participation in Quintana Roo, where women cease to be spectators to become protagonists of true change, strengthening substantive equality and social transformation from a collective and feminist perspective.

The call to join the Weavers of the Homeland network remains open through the official site https://tejedorasdelapatria.mujeres.gob.mx/, as part of a permanent strategy of the Government of Mexico and the Secretariat of Women at the federal level.

In the state, the initiative is carried out in coordination with SEMUJERES through the 12 LIBRE Centers and with the promotion of the Women’s Rights Handbook, fundamental tools to guarantee access to a life free of violence and the full exercise of women’s rights.

With these actions, SEMUJERES reaffirms its commitment to the public policy of equality, accompanying and strengthening organized women as key agents of social transformation.
