The Environmental Protection Agency (PPA) in Quintana Roo is currently investigating around 60 local businesses for failing to implement proper waste management plans. The establishments under scrutiny range from shopping centers and restaurants to hotels, with penalties varying based on the size of the property.
Despite the ongoing investigations, there has been a noticeable increase in businesses taking steps to regularize their waste management programs, indicating a growing willingness to comply with environmental regulations. To date, at least 25% of the imposed penalties have been resolved.
The PPA has also announced that it will soon begin extended responsibility inspections, further reinforcing its commitment to ensuring businesses adhere to proper waste management practices.
