Mara Lezama Espinosa, the governor of Quintana Roo, presided over the grand opening of the Hotel Meliá Casa Maya. The hotel, which underwent a renovation costing over 26 million pesos, has created more than 750 direct jobs. This move is seen as a reflection of faith in the current governance and a boost to the region's economy. The hotel is managed by the well-known Meliá Hotels International chain, and its opening not only increases the accommodation options in the Mexican Caribbean but also solidifies the private sector's trust in the region as a viable investment opportunity.

Governor Espinosa emphasized at the opening ceremony that tourism will remain a key driver of development under her administration. She said, "We will always support tourism if it results in shared prosperity." According to SEDETUR, tourism in Quintana Roo is more than just an economic activity. It drives community development, creates jobs, promotes social welfare, and showcases the region's cultural and natural riches to the world.

The opening of Meliá Casa Maya is a testament to the vitality and resilience of the tourism sector. It also highlights the commitment of business leaders to sustainable and responsible development. The hotel's opening not only bolsters the region's tourist infrastructure but also brings tangible benefits to the community. It has created over 250 direct jobs in hotel operations, maintenance, and services, and approximately 600 indirect jobs. This has stimulated the local economy, benefiting local suppliers, transporters, and tour operators.

The successful launch of this project demonstrates the potential of public and private sector collaboration in establishing Quintana Roo as a world-class destination. "Sustainability is a priority in this new era of tourism in the state. We are proud that companies like Meliá Hotels International share this vision and promote responsible practices that protect our natural resources and enhance the local community's well-being," said the state government. The Quintana Roo government remains committed to policies that strengthen the tourism industry, attract new investments, and create opportunities for all.
