Puerto Morelos Mayor Backs Addiction Treatment Center Serving 65 People in Leona Vicario

Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz tours the Fundación Adara treatment center in Leona Vicario

Leona Vicario, Quintana Roo — Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz visited and expressed support for the Fundación Adara addiction treatment center in Leona Vicario, which currently provides comprehensive treatment to 65 people.

During her tour of the facility, the mayor emphasized that addiction represents a priority public health issue that requires institutional coordination and support for civil society organizations.

“As a government, we have the responsibility to accompany and support those who work every day to save lives,” said the mayor, recognizing the efforts of the center’s operating team.

Over 180 People Treated in Four Years

Officials reported that over the past four years, the organization has treated more than 180 people, many from the local community. Half of the current 65 patients are originally from the Leona Vicario area.

Comprehensive Treatment and Recovery Approach

Fausto Eduardo Ramírez Bastida, president and founder of Fundación para las Adicciones Adara México, explained that the center opened in Leona Vicario just over a year ago. The facility features spacious installations for therapeutic activities.

The treatment program includes:

  • Detoxification
  • Physical and physiological care
  • Motivational therapy
  • Alcoholics Anonymous meetings

The goal is to achieve profound transformation in the lives of those seeking rehabilitation.

Call to Strengthen Support and Donations

During the visit, officials highlighted the importance of donations—both financial and in-kind contributions like clothing and food—to ensure the center’s continuous operation.

Alberto Arelle Sergent, coordinator of the Office of Advisors, reiterated that the municipal government maintains addiction treatment as a priority in Quintana Roo, strengthening collaborative work with civil associations to rebuild social fabric.
