Puerto Morelos Expects 90% Occupancy for Year-End Tourism

Puerto Morelos, Mexico — Puerto Morelos is preparing for one of its strongest year-end closures in terms of tourism. Municipal authorities anticipate reaching 90% occupancy in both hotels and accommodations offered through digital platforms, according to Raúl Guadarrama, the municipality’s Secretary of Sustainable Tourism.

Occupancy Has Been Positive in Recent Weeks

According to Guadarrama, the occupancy expectation responds to the positive behavior the destination has shown in recent weeks. The two long weekends in November and the recent Thanksgiving holiday bridge left a tourist influx higher than expected, which strengthened the pace of reservations for December.

Most visitors, he explained, opt for stays oriented towards rest and enjoyment of the beaches and natural attractions of Puerto Morelos.

U.S. Tourism Continues as the Main Market

The official highlighted that these projections are also sustained thanks to the dynamism of the international market. U.S. tourism continues to be the main source of travelers to the destination, followed by Canadian and European tourism, maintaining the trend that favors destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.

Guadarrama added that recreational activities, from gastronomic experiences to sports like beach frisbee, have gained greater popularity among visitors, contributing to a year-end that, he anticipated, will be “very positive for the entire tourism value chain.”
