Mexico City — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum unexpectedly presented the FIFA World Cup trophy during her daily press conference on Monday, exactly 100 days before the tournament kicks off in Mexico.

The trophy will be displayed in Mexico City after arriving from Guadalajara, Jalisco, as part of a nationwide tour. Sheinbaum lifted the trophy in the Treasury Hall of the National Palace alongside Brazilian former player José Roberto Gama de Oliveira, known as Bebeto, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994.

“It gives me goosebumps to think about what we’ll all experience together this June,” Sheinbaum said, adding that she wants the World Cup spirit to extend beyond stadiums into plazas, streets, and communities across the country.

She described the trophy tour as the largest ever conducted in Mexico, visiting ten cities with free public access. “This shows the world a strong Mexico proud of its identity,” she stated.

Louis Balat, president of Coca-Cola Mexico, noted during the event: “This is the third time we’ll be hosts. No other country in the world can say that, only Mexico.”

Coca-Cola also gave away 25 tickets to winners of a government-organized social media contest. Sheinbaum received a replica of the trophy, which she said would be placed in a museum.
