Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — To ensure no household in Playa del Carmen goes without food, Mayor Estefanía Mercado has officially launched the social program “Playa Llena, Corazón Contento” (“Full Plate, Happy Heart”), which will provide monthly assistance to more than 3,000 families in the municipality.
During an event attended by residents and local officials, Mercado emphasized that the initiative addresses one of the community’s most pressing concerns: food security.
“When there is food on the table, there is peace in the home, harmony in the community, and hope in the heart. This program fulfills our commitment to the people and brings us closer to the prosperous Playa del Carmen we envision,” the mayor stated.
The municipal program aligns with welfare policies promoted by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama, prioritizing direct aid distribution without intermediaries or bureaucratic hurdles to reach those most in need.
A Local Model with National Impact
“Playa Llena, Corazón Contento” positions Playa del Carmen as a benchmark for municipal-level social policy design. The program goes beyond food parcel distribution, aiming to establish a sustainable food security framework with clear guidelines, transparency, and direct community engagement.
Registration will be conducted in person at the Secretariat of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, located in the Nuevo Palacio, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicants must present a valid voter ID (INE), proof of address, and their CURP (Unique Population Registry Code).
Welfare with a Human Face
Mercado stressed that the program not only meets immediate needs but also works to reduce inequality gaps, ensuring measurable social well-being through stable families, well-supplied households, and united communities.
With this initiative, Playa del Carmen reinforces its leadership in municipal public policy, advancing a development model where prosperity translates into social peace and stability for its residents.
