Playa del Carmen, Mexico — As part of a comprehensive security and professional development strategy, the municipal government of Playa del Carmen celebrated the conclusion of the "100 Days Learn English" basic English course for members of the city’s Tourism Police force. The initiative underscores the local administration’s commitment to fostering a more prepared, empathetic, and visitor-friendly police unit, vital for supporting tourism, one of the municipality’s key economic drivers.
Strengthening Police Preparedness for Global Tourism
Representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Guillermo Brahms González, the Municipal Chief Officer, commended the officers who completed the course, acknowledging their additional efforts outside their 24/7 shifts. "This administration believes in continuous training and elevating public service through concrete actions," González stated.
Raúl Tassinari González, Secretary of Public Security, emphasized that English proficiency is not a luxury but a necessity for Playa del Carmen, an international tourist destination. "This course is another tool to enhance visitor assistance while building a more humane and professional police force. Thanks to Mayor Mercado’s support, we are advancing toward community security with a human face and a global vision," he said.
Expanding the Initiative
The three-month course saw participation from 30 officers in its first phase, with an additional 30 expected to join the second round. Through such measures, the Playa del Carmen government reinforces its stance that transformation is built on knowledge, training, and dedication to public service—solidifying the city’s reputation as a safe, competitive, and excellence-driven tourist destination.
