Playa del Carmen Offers Residents 45% Ferry Discount to Cozumel

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced a new benefit for Playa del Carmen residents through a partnership between the municipal government and ferry operator Winjet Ferry: a 45 percent discount on round-trip service to Cozumel for holders of the Pase Playense card.

The preferential fare of 285 pesos per round trip, equal to the children’s rate, will be in effect during September and October. The announcement followed a meeting between Mercado and Winjet Ferry’s general director, Alejandro Gutiérrez Sánchez, and commercial manager, José Gabriel Briceño Durán.

“That’s what the Pase Playense is about: teaming up with the private sector to deliver real benefits for our people, strengthen the local economy and ensure prosperity reaches everyone,” Mercado said.

Pase Playense is promoted by the municipal Economic Development and Investment Attraction Department. The program uses a physical and digital card that lets residents access special discounts and promotions at businesses and services across Playa del Carmen.

To date, 259 businesses have joined the program, benefiting more than 10,000 residents. Residents can apply for the card at https://paseplayense.enplaya.mx/solicitar/.

Available benefits include discounts at medical offices, clinical laboratories, dental practices, pharmacies, barbershops, hair salons, stationery shops, daycare centers, private universities and other health, education and everyday services. With the new ferry agreement, the card now also covers maritime transport between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.

Mercado thanked the companies that have signed up and renewed her call for residents to shop locally, saying the goal is to keep family spending within the municipality to help merchants, entrepreneurs and service providers grow.
