Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced that a major security operation involving 452 police vehicles has prevented any violent incidents overnight, following a series of vehicle burnings on Sunday.
The mayor said the city has deployed patrol cars, motorcycles, and specialized vehicles across the municipality as part of ongoing preventive measures. She reported no incidents during Sunday night and early Monday morning, after several vehicles were set on fire the previous day.
Mercado emphasized coordination with Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama, the State Security Council, and federal institutions including the Mexican Navy and the Mexican Army.
“As municipal authorities, we have been permanently monitoring various points in the city over the last 24 hours, which allowed us to report no incidents overnight,” the mayor stated.
The city government also has a helicopter conducting strategic aerial patrols to reinforce surveillance and improve response capabilities, according to Mercado.
“These actions are carried out in close coordination with state and federal authorities to maintain public order and safeguard the integrity of Playa del Carmen families and visitors,” she added.
The mayor urged residents to remain calm, follow only official information channels, and avoid spreading false news. She said operational work continues 24 hours a day, seven days a week, prioritizing social peace in the tourist destination.
