The International Book and Culture Fair has kicked off in Playa del Carmen, with a lively start and strong participation from local children and youths. The event is being held in Plaza 28 de Julio and features a diverse range of writers, publishers and cultural expressions. The fair not only brings literature closer to the community, but also offers recreational and cultural activities for all ages.

During the opening ceremony, Manuel Jesús Lizama Guerrero, Director of Education, Human Development and Public Libraries, highlighted the importance of the fair. He noted its unprecedented scale and diversity for the city.

Children and young people are particularly enjoying the interactive activities at the fair. Lizama Guerrero also discussed the enduring impact of reading on younger generations. Despite the rise of digital technologies, he argued that books remain an irreplaceable tool for learning and imagination. He said, "Books have the power to transport us to other worlds, provide unique experiences and impart essential values."

One of the highlights of the event is the involvement of library staff, who have prepared performances based on fables and literary classics. Throughout the day, characters from "The Ant and the Grasshopper" and "The Wizard of Oz" have made appearances, with performances of indigenous tales and other cultural expressions set to follow in the coming days.

The fair is more than just a book event, it's a significant cultural festival that brings together writers, artists and the Playa del Carmen community. "This is a pivotal event that we believe will establish an annual tradition that will continue to grow," said Lizama Guerrero. He extended an invitation to the entire community to participate in the activities. "This event is not just for schools; everyone is invited: children, young people, adults. We are confident you will have a great time."

The International Book and Culture Fair will run until 9:00 p.m., with a packed schedule of workshops, book presentations, exhibitions and performances that promise to make this edition a landmark event in the cultural life of Playa del Carmen.
