Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The municipal government of Playa del Carmen has announced a new initiative titled "Embajadores del Destino" (Destination Ambassadors), a contest spearheaded by Municipal President Estefanía Mercado with the primary objective of increasing tourism and promoting visits to the area's beaches.
The initiative targets content creators, offering them the opportunity to become the official influencer for the destination and win up to 150,000 pesos. According to the Playa del Carmen City Council, internet posts promoted by influencers generate between seven thousand and ten thousand clicks on travel pages. President Mercado aims to leverage this digital influence to elevate the municipality's profile.
As a first step, the municipal president held a meeting with a total of 45 well-known influencers from Playa del Carmen and across Mexico. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the importance of digital content in tourism and to secure essential support for the "Embajadores del Destino" contest.
Contest Requirements for 'Embajadores del Destino' 2025
While content creation has become one of the most popular projects among young people across the country, the Playa del Carmen City Council is not only seeking individuals who have been creating tourism content for some time, but also those who meet specific criteria. The stated requirements for participants are:
- To know Playa del Carmen very well, from ordinary places to tourist spots.
- To be familiar with the programs, scholarships, and support services offered within the municipality.
- To be willing to serve as an ambassador for the municipality.
