Emergency Response Initiative for Female Violence Victims Launched in Playa del Carmen

The Solidaridad government has reactivated its 'violet points' initiative, which had been criticized for its ineffectiveness during the previous municipal term. The program was initially criticized for not fulfilling its intended role of providing aid. Barbara Delgado Uc, director of the Institute for Women of Solidaridad, mentioned that the violet points have been reintroduced as panic buttons have proven to be inadequate.

"In the government, we respond to emergency calls triggered by panic buttons, but often when we arrive, no one is there. There is a process involving cameras, but the reality is that in our experience, the abuser often triggers the panic button and flees. So, we are ensuring that the violet points are staffed at the appropriate times to allow entry, as they were previously closed," said Delgado Uc.

Under the previous administration in Solidaridad, six violet points were established. Their primary purpose is to offer immediate support to women who have been abused. However, various groups noted that these points were never fully operational. The violet points are located in areas with high incidents of violence against women, including the Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta neighborhood, Villamar 2, Nicte-Há, Mission of Flowers, and Puerto Aventuras.
