Health Official Calls for Flu Shots in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen Health Secretary Jose Antonio Uribe Trujillo

Playa del Carmen, MX. — José Antonio Uribe Trujillo, Secretary of Health of Playa del Carmen, has called on the population to get vaccinated against influenza, after the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER) confirmed the first case of H3N2 subclade K, popularly known as super flu, in a person in Mexico.

In an interview, the official reported that this vaccine “generates immunity against the different variants of influenza,” including this one, which caused a health alert in the United Kingdom this same week.

The doctor emphasized that, in case of contracting this type of flu, the symptoms are less aggressive if one has received this vaccine.

“And anyway, if for some reason, depending, let’s say, on these reagents, one were to contract or have influenza, it will not be as aggressive,” he stressed.

He added that no extraordinary protocols have been activated so far; however, he reiterated the importance of the population getting vaccinated to prevent infection.

He reported that influenza vaccines can be administered free of charge at the Primary Care Centers in the municipality; in addition, at IMSS or SESA clinics.

“It is important to call on all people or family members to pay attention and to know that there are health professionals who can help,” he concluded.

According to the Ministry of Health, the symptoms of this variant are headaches and muscle pain, extreme fatigue and, in some cases, vomiting or diarrhea.
