Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Playa del Carmen government has established permanent security patrols along the municipality’s coastline to prevent crime and provide direct assistance to families, visitors, and tourism workers.
Through the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat (SSCM), authorities conduct daytime patrols and inspections on public beaches, including certified ones, to ensure bather safety and deter criminal activity. The Tourism Police, supported by K-9 units, maintain continuous surveillance at beach access points and sandy areas, using Razer-type vehicles to expand patrol coverage along the entire coastal strip.
Citizen Security Secretary Carlos Montesinos explained that this presence forms part of a permanent preventive strategy prioritizing territorial surveillance, community engagement, and field response. The initiative aims to discourage criminal behavior, respond promptly to reports, and strengthen security in high-traffic public spaces.
Beyond incident response, the deployed personnel also provide guidance on basic safety measures, such as keeping personal belongings visible at all times.
The Playa del Carmen government emphasized that beach security represents an ongoing effort sustained through daily operational presence and inter-agency coordination. Officials urge the public to report emergencies or suspicious activity by calling 911 or approaching SSCM personnel in the area.
