Playas de Rosarito, Baja California — Playa del Carmen and Playas de Rosarito formalized a sister city agreement during the 2025 Tianguis Turístico de México, marking a strategic partnership to boost tourism and economic collaboration between the Caribbean and Pacific coastal destinations.

The signing ceremony, held at the Baja California Center, was attended by Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado and Playas de Rosarito Mayor María del Rocío Adame Muñoz. The agreement aims to strengthen promotional efforts, cross-tourism flows, and foster exchanges in key sectors such as medical tourism, sports tourism, regional gastronomy, and business travel.

A Partnership Forged by Shared Strengths

Mayor Mercado emphasized the natural synergies between the two cities, citing their pristine beaches, culinary richness, and welcoming communities. “We are two destinations united by the same dreams and a passion for offering unforgettable experiences to the world,” she stated.

Accompanied by Tourism Secretary Estefanía Hernández and Economic Development Director Antón Bojórquez, Mercado outlined the initiative’s goals under the slogan “Playa in Rosarito and Rosarito in Playa.” The collaboration seeks to create opportunities for local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and producers while sharing best practices in sustainable tourism development.

Mayor Adame Muñoz welcomed the agreement and toured Playa del Carmen’s interactive exhibition stand, expressing enthusiasm for future exchanges. “We look forward to visiting Playa del Carmen soon to deepen this partnership and share experiences that benefit our communities,” she said.

Expanding Tourism and Economic Ties

The sister city pact is expected to enhance international visibility for both destinations while promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism models. Playa del Carmen’s delegation highlighted the city’s commitment to fostering prosperity through cross-regional alliances.

The signing reinforces Playa del Carmen’s position as a leading tourism hub, leveraging partnerships to diversify its offerings and attract new visitor segments.
