Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A parking attendant intervened to rescue a 13-year-old boy from an alleged sexual assault attempt by a 60-year-old man on the streets of Chetumal. The incident occurred when the adolescent was walking along the city’s boulevard.
The elderly man, who was sitting on a bench, initially called the minor over with gestures. When the boy approached, the suspect offered him 200 pesos to perform various sexual acts, which the teenager refused. However, the man did not accept the refusal and approached the minor, pulling him and attempting to take him toward a brushy area to assault him.
A man working as a “viene viene” (parking attendant) in the area noticed that the minor was trying to free himself from the suspect’s hands. Without hesitation, he confronted the man and helped the adolescent break free to safety, away from the aggressor. Guards at the entrance to the fiscal pier also came to the minor’s aid.
Following the incident, the guards requested police presence and turned over the suspect, identified as Jesús A.P., who appeared to be intoxicated and possibly under the influence of narcotics. After officers from the Tourist Police arrived, the minor directly identified the elderly man as his aggressor.
The police then took the suspect into custody to the offices of the Center for Justice for Women, where an investigation file was opened against him for the possible commission of the crime of attempted sexual abuse against a minor.
Finally, personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Victims of Gender Violence (Geavig) went to the site to accompany the minor to where his mother, a street vendor on the boulevard, was located.
