Cancún, Quintana Roo — An operation led by the State Attorney General’s Office, with support from the National Guard, resulted in the seizure of an establishment and the rescue of six women in Cancún’s superblock 237 on Friday night.
The intervention stemmed from investigations into the alleged crime of human trafficking, specifically sexual exploitation.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, authorities executed a search warrant at the “Botanero La Popis” bar, located on Prolongación Tulum Avenue.
The judicial procedure originated from an anonymous complaint alerting about illicit activities within the premises, which led ministerial agents to conduct prior surveillance work.
During the search, six Mexican women, aged between 20 and 25, were placed under protection.
The young women were taken to the Attorney General’s Office facilities to give their statements. According to initial investigations, the victims were allegedly recruited under promises of employment but were reportedly forced to hand over a portion of their earnings to the manager for various services, including drinking alcohol with clients and intimate encounters.
At the site, the bar manager was detained as the probable person responsible for these events. Once the inspection was completed, ministerial personnel placed seizure seals on the property’s entrances, which was made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities reported that they will provide accompaniment and support to the rescued women while deepening investigations to dismantle possible criminal networks linked to this case.
