Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A group of nurses protested outside the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office in Playa del Carmen on Thursday, demanding the release of a colleague arrested in connection with a student intoxication case.
The nurses, who work with the detained woman at Playa del Carmen General Hospital, gathered outside the prosecutor’s office to call for her immediate release, claiming she is innocent.
Authorities arrested a nurse identified as Alejandra “N” after a teacher, Rubén “N”, accused her of supplying him with candy containing harmful substances. The teacher was previously detained at the Luz María Zaleta secondary school in Villas del Sol, where he allegedly drugged four students with candy he offered to parents.
The detained teacher reportedly told investigators he purchased the candy from his coworker, leading to the nurse’s arrest as she left the hospital.
Fellow nurses disputed the accusations, acknowledging that their colleague sells candy to medical and administrative staff at the hospital but insisting the products contain no dangerous substances. “She sells candy, but without any harmful contents for health,” one protester said.
Protesters described their colleague as a responsible mother who has sold candy at the hospital for some time without incident. They called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and avoid implicating innocent people.
According to unofficial information, the detained teacher works both as a professor at the school and as head of the maintenance department at Playa del Carmen General Hospital.
The State Prosecutor’s Office has not confirmed whether the candy in question contained any illicit substances. Officials indicated the nurse’s detention was intended to help clarify the case.
