Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Nine people were injured Sunday morning in a violent head-on collision between a private car and a public transport van in Playa del Carmen.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Avenida Libramiento, near the Nuevo Noh Bec neighborhood. According to witnesses, a Volkswagen Golf traveling southbound crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a Nissan Urvan public van heading north.
The impact caused the Volkswagen to catch fire. All nine passengers in the van suffered injuries. Eight were treated at the scene by emergency crews and did not require hospital transport. A 15-year-old girl was taken by ERUM paramedics to the IMSS Bienestar Hospital No. 18.
Traffic officers conducted an investigation at the scene to prepare a technical report. The case has been turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation and to determine responsibility.
Authorities urged drivers to avoid driving while fatigued, drowsy, or under the influence of alcohol, and to take extra precautions behind the wheel to prevent such accidents.
