“Shocking Call for Transparency in Nautical Industry Reforms”

The Business Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) in the southern region has called for lawmakers to discuss reforms with the public before they are implemented. This is particularly relevant for laws such as the one prohibiting children under 12 from riding on motorcycles, even with helmets.

Business leader, Raúl Villanueva Argüelles, emphasized the need to consider the perspectives of low-income citizens who rely on motorcycles as a primary mode of transport. While road safety is undeniably important, it's crucial to assess the impact of such laws on the community.

The goal is to ensure that these laws do not unduly burden those who depend on motorcycles due to a lack of other affordable transportation options. The recent enactment of the reform to Article 49 of the General Law on Mobility and Road Safety has received mixed reviews.

This highlights the need to strike a balance between safety and the socioeconomic realities of the population.
