Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A serious accident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Ejido neighborhood, where a woman traveling on a motorcycle with her minor daughter was struck by a private pickup truck. Both were injured and had to be transported urgently to a hospital in Playa del Carmen.
The incident was recorded on Avenida 100 at the intersection with Calle 28, when the driver of a white pickup truck with license plate UVU-787-W allegedly failed to respect a stop sign placed in the area. According to witnesses, the vehicle, described as a Liberty or Expedition type, proceeded without stopping and directly impacted the motorcycle carrying the woman and her daughter.
Due to the collision, both were thrown onto the pavement, lying on the roadway with visible injuries. People passing through the area immediately approached to assist the victims while requesting support from emergency services.
Minutes later, paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross arrived, providing pre-hospital care to the mother and the minor. After initial assessment, they were transported to the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen due to the severity of some of their injuries.
According to the preliminary report, the responsible driver fled the scene after the impact, leaving the injured at the site without attempting to provide assistance. The vehicle remained in the area while transit authorities were notified to begin the corresponding procedure and document the accident.
Municipal Transit personnel conducted the initial procedures, collected testimonies, and prepared the report to determine responsibilities. The involved vehicle was secured for legal proceedings.
Later, relatives of the affected individuals went before the State Attorney General’s Office to file the corresponding complaint regarding the events, with the aim of conducting investigations to fully identify the alleged responsible party.
Neighbors in the area indicated that the intersection where the accident occurred is considered risky due to the constant flow of vehicles and motorcycles, as well as cases where motorists do not respect traffic signs. Some residents requested increased surveillance and preventive measures to avoid new accidents.
