Miami, Florida — During a meeting with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), executives from Carnival Cruise Line expressed interest in supplying their ships with products from Yucatán. The meeting was attended by a delegation led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and took place aboard one of the US cruise line's flagship vessels.
The executives highlighted that this potential collaboration represents a new opportunity for producers and business owners from Yucatán, with the potential to export goods from both the primary and secondary sectors. According to the official communiqué from the state government, the agreement would boost local supply chains and place Yucatecan products in the international cruise market.
Projected Routes and Port Expansion
Carnival announced that its ship, the Carnival Horizon, will set sail for the first time from Galveston on May 19, 2027, on an eight-day cruise with stops in Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, and Isla Tropicale. The company also stated it will offer more than 70 departures to Cozumel and Progreso between May 2027 and April 2028.
Another flagship vessel, the Carnival Spirit, will begin operations from Galveston on October 11, 2027, with four, five, and six-day cruises through the western Caribbean, including stops in Cozumel, Progreso, and Belize.
For its part, Disney Cruise Line expressed its interest in having its Dream-class and Wish-class cruise ships, with a capacity for four thousand passengers, call at the port of Progreso in the near future. This would depend on the widening of the navigation channel and the projected improvements to the port infrastructure.
Logistics, Security, and Port Collaboration
During the visit, Governor Díaz Mena learned first-hand about the operational, security, and management processes that have positioned Miami as one of the most important port centers in the world, as well as the models of collaboration between port authorities and private companies.
The delegation also toured the facilities of MSC, considered the largest port terminal in the world, which is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for the logistical control of cargo and passengers.
