Qatar — The Mexican Under-17 National Team revived its hopes in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2025, securing its first victory of the tournament with a narrow 1-0 win against Ivory Coast. The team, coached by Carlos Cariño and obligated to win after its initial setback, managed to stay alive in Group F thanks to a decisive goal by Ian Olvera in the 74th minute.

In an intense and physically demanding match, the Mexican squad displayed order and determination. The play that decided the match originated from a set piece, with a precise cross from Gael García that Olvera headed in to break the tie.

With the minimal advantage, the Mexico Under-17 team knew how to manage the game's tempo and neutralized any attempt at a reaction from the African side, which registered its second consecutive defeat after having lost its debut match against Switzerland.

With this victory, Mexico Under-17 adds three points and provisionally sits in third place in Group F. Its future in the World Cup will depend on the result of the match between Switzerland and South Korea, though the win keeps its qualification possibilities alive, either as the group's runner-up or as one of the best third-place teams.

The team's next challenge will be on Monday, November 10, when the youth Tri will face Switzerland in search of a pass to the next phase of the tournament.
