Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) will deploy staff to monitor six archaeological sites in Quintana Roo during the spring equinox, the federal Culture Ministry announced.
The Spring Equinox Operation 2026 will run from March 20 to 22 to ensure visitor and worker safety and protect archaeological heritage as crowds arrive for the seasonal change.
Visitors will not be allowed to bring pets, food, alcoholic beverages, drugs, weapons, or large bags. Officials urge attendees to follow INAH instructions, avoid restricted areas, and respect operating hours and capacity limits.
The spring equinox occurs on March 20 at 8:46 a.m. Central Mexico Time, according to the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics.
Most sites will maintain regular opening hours, but visitors should check local announcements on social media for last entry times. Tickets are only available at site ticket offices.
Authorities recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes and bringing sun protection.
