Mexico City — Mexican health authorities have issued an urgent nationwide call for measles vaccination, targeting children aged six months to 12 years as the most vulnerable group.

During the daily presidential press conference, Deputy Health Secretary Eduardo Clark García announced that sufficient vaccine doses are available across the country and urged parents to visit health centers to complete or begin vaccination schedules.

The official emphasized that immunization is the primary tool for preventing outbreaks, with the federal government maintaining a national strategy to strengthen coverage throughout Mexico.

Children Aged 6 Months to 12 Years Are Priority

Clark García stressed that the pediatric population represents the priority group for the vaccination campaign.

“The most important, highest priority population are those children who are between six months and 12 years old. They are the most vulnerable group, and we are making a nationwide call for them to get vaccinated in any state or municipality,” he stated.

This call extends to all federal entities, where health centers have the necessary doses to meet demand.

Key Vaccination Points

  • Children aged 6 months to 12 years are the priority vaccination group
  • Children should be vaccinated if they:
    1. Have received no doses and are over six months old
    2. Are between 6 and 12 years old and are unvaccinated
    3. Have only received the first dose and more than six months have passed
  • People aged 13 to 49 who lack the vaccine should also get immunized
  • Vaccines are available at all health centers nationwide
  • Since 2025, over 22 million measles vaccine doses have been administered
  • Currently, more than 3 million vaccines are administered weekly

States With Most Measles Cases

According to the deputy secretary, Mexico is not facing widespread outbreaks, with most cases concentrated in specific states.

The entities with the highest number of infections are:

  • Jalisco
  • Sinaloa
  • Mexico City
  • Puebla
  • Colima
  • Nayarit
  • Durango
  • Chiapas
  • Tabasco
  • Sonora

Health authorities particularly urged residents of these states to check their vaccination records and get immunized if they haven’t already.

Over 22 Million Vaccines Administered

Clark García explained that the vaccination campaign intensified after the first case was detected in Chihuahua in February 2025.

Since then:

  • 22 million doses have been administered nationwide
  • 270,000 additional vaccines were distributed in the first weeks of 2026 alone
  • Weekly administration reached 3.3 million doses in February

The official noted that public response has been positive, with vaccination demand multiplying nearly 15 times following the national call.

Call to Visit Health Centers

Authorities reiterated that the measles vaccine is free and safe, urging families to review their children’s vaccination records.

The goal is to prevent outbreaks and keep the disease under control by strengthening immunization across the population.

If a child or adult lacks the vaccine or doesn’t remember receiving it, they can visit the nearest health center to receive it at no cost.
