Quintana Roo, Mexico — Hotels across the Mexican Caribbean are reporting near-capacity occupancy rates as the region prepares for the upcoming Easter holiday season, with U.S. tourists comprising the largest share of visitors.

The Quintana Roo Tourism Department announced an overall hotel occupancy rate of 89.1% in its latest report, confirming strong demand for the destination ahead of the peak travel period.

State Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra said the figures reflect exceptional year-end performance for the region.

“We are seeing very positive tourism activity with high occupancy levels,” Cueto stated. “This confirms that the Mexican Caribbean maintains its appeal and competitiveness internationally. The high number of travelers arriving reflects confidence in our destinations and the constant boost tourism provides for the regional economy, from employment to local services.”

Visitor Markets and Destination Performance

U.S. tourists represent the largest visitor group at 36% of total arrivals, followed closely by domestic Mexican travelers at 35%. Canadian visitors account for 10%, with European markets including the United Kingdom, Spain, France, and Germany, along with South American visitors from Argentina, Colombia, and Chile, contributing to the region’s diverse tourism base.

Cueto noted that this pre-Easter period helps gauge the tourism growth expected for the destination ahead of the World Cup, where Quintana Roo will serve as an important international connectivity point.

“The diversity of markets, high occupancy, and growth in flights speak to a strong, resilient Mexican Caribbean with solid foundations to start the next year with positive expectations for the entire tourism chain,” he added.

Top Performing Destinations

Isla Mujeres leads all destinations with 93.5% hotel occupancy, followed by Puerto Morelos at 92.1% and the Riviera Maya at 90.1%. These areas are showing the most dynamism ahead of the Easter holiday season.

Cozumel reports 89.9% occupancy, Cancún 88%, Costa Mujeres 87.1%, and Tulum 85.5%, all reflecting solid demand. Costa Maya maintains a lower occupancy rate of 65.2%.

The numbers position Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, and the Riviera Maya as star destinations for the upcoming high season.
