The Yucatan Public Security Secretariat (SSP) has announced a series of road closures in Merida, the state capital, for the upcoming Mexican Independence Day weekend. The closures are due to a number of events planned as part of the celebrations.
From the early hours of Saturday, September 14, 2024, certain roads will be off-limits to drivers, motorcyclists, and public transport in La Ciudad Blanca. Specifically, vehicle flow will be halted on 60th Street (between 63rd and 59th) and 61st Street (between 58th and 62nd) starting at 9:00 AM. These roads will reopen once the Civic-Military Parade in Merida concludes.
On Sunday, September 15, the day of the Shout of Independence from the Government Palace, road closures will begin earlier. Despite the event starting before 11:00 PM, driving will be restricted from 2:00 PM on several roads in the area. This includes intersections at 60th Street (with 59th and 65th), 61st Street (with 64th), 62nd Street (with 59th and 65th), and 63rd Street (with 58th and 64th).
On Monday, September 16, vehicle movement will be suspended from 6:00 AM on Paseo Montejo and 58th Street. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume across the city from Monday onwards.
